Jackson assigns Skymaster and myself to Pelican to trail ACE 2 with Chips, QB and Jam. Hoss will Puma Teen Angel to Comox where Waylon will pick up Hoss in ACE 1. ACE 1, 2, Pelican to meet Caffrey over KSKA at 0215 which was moved up to accommodate a change of plan to be broadcast by Jackson/Moose at 0230 as the ACEs, Pelican, Sweet Talkin Woman proceed to destinations, plural, foot stompers, destinations assigned real time by Jackson or in his incapacitation, Moose. Amelia enroute KFAR with PJ and Quantico 4, Rico has the hammer north of 49th parallel, Chips has hammer south of 49th, Agent Covert will straddle. Jackson has removed Amelia pending 'Litmus test' at HoDos. Let's Roll." At that point Stone selected track 110 on his IPod and BTO's killer hit involving a "454 coming over the hill" reverberated throughout the party pit of the Presidential Limo doing 85mph enroute to Vancouver International with the purple funeral lights at full brilliance. As the multicolored lights of Vancouver International came into view, Chips was twigging on the phrase 'Pelican Brief' knowing that it had a subliminal meaning not understood by all. Stopping at the Service Vehicle Gate at the security fence, Swany slid an Alien pass key into the airfield side card reader and the gate was electronically withdrawn allowing Stone to drive to the awaiting aircraft with Swany following on a Honda 350, sans helmet. As they approached the rotating beacons Chips noticed ACE 2 was running with the chocks set. Next to the AC46K were a pair of strange looking C337 Skymasters. Even though both had N84NX on the sides and NPS on the tails, Chips notice a different antenna array on the elongated nose sections and the significance of Pelican and Brief became obvious...Brief was Bravo or dash 2 in a flight of two. As Stone parked the Limo inside the red line delineating the secure portion of the ramp, Swany opened the doors of the Fleetwood and directed traffic. Ten minutes later Chips released the parking brake of ACE 2 while Hoss lifted of in Puma to ferry Teen Angel to the alert barn at Comox. After Skymaster had released the parking brake of Pelican, Stone released the parking brake of Brief and a flight of three queer aircraft taxied to the water end of 26R for a downwind takeoff to the east. "Smoke flight check". Two sets of two clicks and the three aircraft took off with Pelican flight of two in 10 second intervals behind ACE 2. Just after Pelican and Brief had joined on either side of ACE 2, Vancouver tower transmitted "China Eastern 10 heavy, go around. Unknown aircraft departing runway 8L on your nose, 2 miles". With China Eastern A330 doing a TOGA go-around, Chips looked over at QB in the right seat and asked "What time do you have on your WalMart?" As QB dropped his head to check the time, Chips turned to Jam and gave a 'sipping' signal whereupon she repaired to the cargo bay of ACE 2 and opened a cooler marked "Toxic Medical Specimens". She grabbed a pair of Grolsch widebodies and a pre-made CQ, that is Caribbean Queen not carrier qual, and returned to the cockpit in time to hear QB utter "0052 local Chips, how bout you?". As Jam presented the refreshments Chips responded "Same here, let's have a beer" as he engaged AP1 and selected 240K on the airspeed wheel knowing that they were ahead of schedule. Looking as his 'Fuel Predict Page', he saw that at 240 they would still arrive at Spokane early so he altered course direct Comox in hopes of observing the burner plumes as Roughrider and Teen Angel departed Comox to hawk the flight to Fargo. As Smoke flight of 3 was about 2 minutes from Comox centerfield two orange flames came off the runway and flew at approximately 45 degrees of pitch right thru the altitude of the Smokers. With the burner plumes fading, Chips heard Roughrider's 'tied' call. Teen Angel had apparently listened when Chips mentioned he'd be squawking 0000. At 0059 Clippers crackled with "From RICO on northside, standby for briefing in 60 seconds, hack". With Roughrider executing a down track race track so as not to extend away from the Smokers, Caffrey fired up her Merlin, not to be confused with Merkin, and taxiied out to the end of runway 05 at SKA. Behind her on the jump seat, Dwarf turned on his Garmin hand held and ascertained the target azimuth from which the Smokers should be coming at 0215. He had no raw data but got a transponder hit there on 0000. At 0100 straight up Rico's voice came back: "From North Pole, Gadget Bent and Nano are conclusive regarding the index toe option. Harper joins Jackson in escalating AMALGAM Trident, Broken Cup. Escalating pressures on Emerson and Pelosi to begin following HoDo-Foggy Dew two way at 1300 this date. Laser One has departed McChord with Buck and Moose and will rendezvous with Expo 64 over Geiger Field. Teen Angel took a sniff and could break out 4 heat trails. He squinted into his radar hood and hit the EID feature. T56 flashed twice followed by PT6 flashing twice. Over the hot mic Teen Angel directed Roughrider, "search low medium, medium. ACE 2 with unknown trailer let's ID 'em, lights out". As Roughrider turned the external master to off and checked his mirror to ensure the tail mounted beacon was off also he went to idle and speedbrakes and he nosed over to convert on the flight of two joining Smoke flight. At 0204 they had converted into the stern of the trailer and approached from below and dead six. Roughrider dropped the flaps to prevent overrunning Teen Angel and got a snapshot of the tail of the trailer. "ID complete" was all Teen Angel said over the ICS as Roughrider raised the flaps, dropped the nose and ran out underneath the flight of two antique transports. Two clicks on the hot mic gave Roughrider the answer he anticipated, the trailer was a BT67 converted by Basler of Oshkosh and was the turbo DC3 known as 'Sure Lock Express' or the more recent permutation, Sherlock Express. Teen Angel found Laser One on his radar and directed Roughrider to a running rejoin on Laser as Laser was trailing Expo 64 on a course direct Dickinson VOR. As Roughrider joined in fingertip left he gave Buck a nudge to let him know they were 'tied'. At 0210 Clippers went off as Caffrey was cleared for takeoff from Spokane. Caffrey then called "airborne 0210 east" Roughrider stroked his left burner, extended the speed brakes and called "search 60 high, nose, 5 miles". As Caffrey spotted the J79 plume she called 'tied' and the J79 plume was replaced by the position lights of Laser, Sweet Talkin Woman and up ahead, Expo 64. Knowing that the Flying Circus was to be 5 in trail at that time she looked straight up and could see a group of lights as ACE1, ACE2, Pelican and Brief were flying as briefed with a 5th set of dim lights visible trailing the flight of four. The flight of 3 up high and the flight of 5 at 250 proceeded due east, awaiting the Jackson briefing scheduled for 0230. Fuel states and maintenance codes were solicited and there were no rude surprises. The package of 8 proceeded east to engage the Octopussies believing that Madam Speaker would be the first of the Octet to be targeted in hopes that Master Special Officer Craig Miller, the CIA's agent murdered in Building 7, could leave a lasting impression on the Madam's mind. Roughrider, topoff from Expo then proceed solo to Fargo, Expo will RTB Beale. Laser, you are cleared off direct Tyndall, safe journey. Pelican, fuel state?" "Plenty" was the brief answer from Skymaster as he had N84NX sauntering on the left wing of ACE 2. With the flight of 9 separating into their new assignments, Hoss transmitted from N968F "Don't forget ACE 1-alpha Chips". "According to the FAA data base N968F doesn't exist. According to 'the company, the company doesn't exist' therefore if you do exist stayed tied to Waylon in ACE 1 and don't speak again unless ACE 1 is on fire, capeche?" Two clicks from N968F indicated that Hoss understood his non-status. "Roughrider, disconnect now" was heard followed by two J79 burner plumes heading east towards Fargo. As Expo's AR boom was stowed, the KC135Q turned southwest towards Beale and left the frequency. In ACE 2 Chips turned to QB and asked, "How long have you known Agent Covert?" "Chips, I cannot answer that but Covert will be briefing us as Global in about 15 minutes, if you need to stretch your legs I can mind the store. If you get near the Toxic Medical Specimens, grab me a frosty. As Jam and Chips got up to 'stretch' they went back to the bales of dope that had been taken on a sting by DEA in Vancouver. As Jam reclined on a bale, Chips grabbed a frosty for QB and whispered "hold the thought, I will be right back". Up forward QB thanked Chips for the frosty as he looked down the right wing line for Skymaster who had changed sides when he realized Chips was about ready to 'debrief Jam'. As the debriefing was initiated Jam whispered "are you sure it's alright?" to which Chips nodded affirmatively and added "the grass won't pay no mind". As Chips settled into the left seat and scanned the Primary Flight Display, QB smiled as he looked at his chronometer "Good Timing, Chips". "Thanks for noticing. However, pending our Global Clipper I have a few more debriefing items for Jam if we can find the time, capeche?" As QB harked back to "I didn't miss anything, did I?" asked Jam as she settled on the jump seat behind the throttle quadrant. "Negative" responded QB as the Clippers went off right on time at 0245. Chips selected 'speaker' as Agent Covert opened with an 'all stations' Clipper call. "To the team in Vancouver, to the team in the Airbus business jet and to the members of the Flying Circus, this is Agent Covert with an immediate message. Standby for DRAFT messages to the fliers. Laser One, proceed to Minot AFB immediately. Justice 10, proceed on course to KFAR as scheduled. Caffrey, destination KFAR to rejoin cover job per briefing. All other flyers will be rerouting to KMIB to be joined their by FEMA 01 out of Offutt.
