Pastor Peter – Chips in the story – gets a new destination. Dancer tells him he is going to land at Sharjah. He has to ID a body that washed up near Dubai recently. Possibly a ‘Man Who Never Was”. Leaving Sharjah, lightening demonstrated His incredible power while a pair of J79 jet engines took father (Chips) and son (Stone Kohl) directly into the towering cumulus thunderhead and possibly Andrews or General Mitchell Field in Milwaukee on the next leg of the Pilot’s mission. At that very moment a second clap of thunder and a bright flash preceded the sudden quiet-ness that stunned Stone.

As the technology began the descent of the EITAM, Chips looked up at the MDCU and saw that the 'bottom line' was DBX12L. Thinking that didn't remind him much of Istanbul's runway configuration he looked overhead at the triple-mixing ADIRUs and noticed the EITAM's present position was 26-15N and 055-22N, which was a position approximately 60 miles north of Dubai's International Airport; not Istanbul's. He was about to ask Moshe a question when the 'vibrate' function of his BDD11 alerted him to a message of immediate or higher priority. He excused himself from the cockpit and went to read the LED of the AQFB27I in the Comm/Nav suite of the Bonanno Double Decker. It was an 'immediate' from Dancer with copy to Nano al-Umina. As Chips backed out of the AQFB27I suite project and moved back to the cockpit he felt the landing gear being dropped on G550 platform known as the EITAM. As he knelt between Moshe and Ramon they pointed at an open hangar that had an F4 Phantom parked in front of it. Ramon also pointed at a console that was well lit up and he mentioned that UAE, US and Iranian Air Forces ground intercept controllers had been watching their progress for the last hour or so after they had aborted the flight to Istanbul and diverted to Sharjah. Chips noticed the Defensive Systems Operator looked very relaxed.
Having not been to Sharjah since mid-July, 1988 Chips was impressed to see the growth that had taken place in the last 20 years. A plethora of red and white Air Arabia Airbus jets indicated that business was quite good at Sharjah but Chips wondered how good business might be with oil at $50 a barrel. When Chips had been there in 1988 in response to the downing of an Iranian Airlines Flight 655 it had seemed just a sleepy little airport out in the desert. As the EITAM was parked alongside the apparent Egyptian F4, Chips recognized the Crew Chief assigned to the Phantom and he noticed the "64-0972" painted under the tail-flash. Nice touch, he smiled, knowing that the real 64-0972 from which he downed a PQM102 at Tyndall AFB, Florida in April, 1982, was suspended on a pole at the main gate of the North Dakota ANG Base in Fargo. He really enjoyed the humor of the Israelis, a humor they could only display to others who supported their goal of survival. Knowing Israel was the apple of God's eye Chips was certain Israel would survive.
As the EITAM's engines where stopcocked a DHL Van pulled up with Homi and Dyke in the front. From the rear of the van Nano stepped out and was joined by Stone whose assistant Crew Chief was adding external power to the F4. As Swany prepped the Phantom, Nano and Stone led Chips back to the DHL van where a casket was riding. As Nano opened the casket for viewing, Chips nodded his head, pointed to an unusual ring on the right ring finger and a missing portion of the left index finger and gave a thumbs up. This wasn’t a man who never was; this was the real McCoy. They now had a link between La Francophonie hit teams to Le Cercle conspiracy to depopulate Africa and America’s ghetto communities of English-speaking Christian blacks. Nano nodded and reclosed the casket. Nano and Chips signed a medical form from the Abu Dhabi Medical Examiner and Homi hit the road in the DHL van to carry the BDD11 Double Decker back to the morgue in Abu Dhabi. Moshe motioned for Chips to come back to the EITAM and as he reboarded the G550 platform, Ramon handed him two orange flight suits. As he removed his civilian clothing he noticed Stone was wearing boxer shorts in a green and blue plaid pattern. "How Irish, Stone".
"Scottish, actually", quipped Stone pulling on his orange nomex flight suit to reveal "Smoke, Happy Hooligans" on the name tag. Looking down at his own tag he noticed "Plunger, Happy Hooligans" and realized someone had done their homework. As Nano sat down in the forward cabin of the EITAM, Chips asked him where he was going.
Before Nano could answer, Moshe responded "Nano is going to Andrews with Uncle Ben and us and will be 'hawking' you all the way across". As Ramon handed Chips and Stone a pair of flights plans marked "HC-1122" Nano handed Chips a thick Intel packet from Dancer and Hamish.
Chips responded "Well it's starting to look like a family reunion; the only one missing is Hamish". At that point a Super Puma helo landed next to the F4 and Ramon said "You are now being corrected, Hamish is aboard the Puma with Uncle Ben and they also are bound for Andrews, along with a certain gentleman from Jackson Hole, capeche?"
As the fuel truck was finished refueling the EITAM, Hamish walked in and handed Chips an update to the Dancer/Hamish file as Moshe handed Chips a reminder on paper. The paper said "DBX 295/125-260-Upset 51/zipper" whereupon Chips glanced at his flight plan, HC1122, and noticed his jet was only fueled to 8000# which was in deference to the warm runway temps at Sharjah. It appeared that Upset 51 would be 125 miles west north west of Dubai at 26,000 feet ready to refuel HC1122 during radio silence.
Swany walked up and indicated to Chips and Stone it was rodeo time so a quick handshake all around and the EITAM was buttoned up as the #2 engine came to life. As Swany helped strap Chips and Stone into their seats, Chips had Swany switch their helmets after the EITAM had taxiied away and had the tailpipes pointed at the Phantom. As Stone and Chips checked the intercom system, Stone asked "Why the helmet swap dad?"
"Stone, that way when we rejoin EITAM after the refueling they will think you are in the front seat; you see they know that my helmet is red and yours is blue so when they see the blue helmet in the front cockpit, they will be 'Mind-Boxed' into thinking you are in front, capeche?" As the canopies where dropped the starboard J79 was lighting off followed moments later by the port engine. Swany had given the INS a BATH alignment so Stone said "cleared prim-sync" and Chips flashed the taxi light whereupon Swany pulled the chocks and waved them off. As Stone read the checklist, Chips taxied for takeoff and approaching the hold short watched EITAM perform a very impressive departure. Stone could almost feel 'airshow' coming back into his father's mindset. Just prior to calling tower for takeoff a Clipper came into the IDF Phantom's cockpit from Dancer on a relay from Ramon. "Airspace sanitized, see you at the tanker, EITAM". Stone acknowledged to Dancer knowing Dancer would relay to EITAM.
"Hotel Charlie 1122, cleared for takeoff, climb unrestricted to 260, cleared on course direct Upset".
Chips responded by lighting the burners of the J79s and responded "Roger" as the light F4 was reaching NWLO speed and rotating. A vertical check turn and a smooth rotation to 60 degrees nose up as the airspeed was accelerating through 350 knots. As his fuel gauge hit 5500# Chips transmitted on EITAM's discrete freq, "turn the tanker". At that point Upset 51 left the anchor at DBX 295/125 and heading 115 degrees at .84 mach to put the Phantom on the boom faster. With tanker and receiver heading straight towards each other with 1600 mph closure, Chips told Stone "watch for the tanker to start a left turn at 11 miles". Level at 260 he turned on the auto pilot and mentioned to Stone "I've got to do a little reading; you can watch the autopilot fly or kick it off, your choice".
As the autopilot was kicked off, the Phantom PIOed briefly and then settled on a bee line for the air refueling rendezvous. As Chips scanned briefly the update to the Dancer/Hamish file he wrote down key words on his kneeboard scratchpad: PBA, MDA, HC-X2, AXA, FAF, IDF, FMfm, SBA, Gamble and Sanger, UCH, Clinton Reubens. He was becoming a 'quick study' on the abortion plans of HC when "turn the tanker" coming over the UHF caused him put down his pencil and look out the windshield. He saw a KC135 in a left turn at 26 degrees left, 13 miles and said to Stone "Nice job Stone, I've got the jet. Turn off any spooky emitters you may have fired up and lower your seat". He looked at this IDF console and could see EITAM had shutdown their IAI Phalcon so he knew they were 'visual' with Upset 51 also. As Chips maneuvered the F4 into pre-contact position, the boom was coming down and a double flash of the AR lights encouraged Chips to open the AR door and move into contact position. Stabilizing in contact, he felt the hookup complete on the first 'stab'. He looked at the AR indicator and his fuel quantity indicator and he saw that he was taking fuel as the totalizer passed 4000#. Because HC1122 was a 'three bagger' he knew they'd be on the boom a while so he started talking to Stone on Hot Mic.
"Stone, do you see what I see?"
"Dad, do you mean the boomer?"
"Exactly, this Milwaukee guard unit must have some smooth recruiters" responded Chips as a female young enough to be a college cheerleader was so good and so comfortable she had indicated visually 'override' meaning Chips didn't have to work as hard as the 3 bagger hung on the boom taking on approximately 18,000# of fuel or a little more, as the power was constantly coming up as the gross weight was increasing. After a few minutes the lady boomer made a sipping signal and Chips saw that all tanks were full. He nodded in a 'yes' motion and she dipped her head twice and disconnected the boom on the third nod. As the boom was stowed she gave a thumbs up and pointed up and to Chip's right. Looking up at the right wing he saw the EITAM and as she waved bye-bye, Chips positioned the F4 to the right of the Israeli jet, in echelon, and clicked his mic twice. The EITAM increased power, turned 10 degrees to the right and started climbing to FL340 to allow the fat F4 to burn down the three external tanks. As the KC135 turned to recover at PSAB, the co-pilot said "Hey Plunger, Scotty G says hi".
"Thanks Upset, tell Scotty to come back to visit in Fargo soon, Narc and Plunger will buy him dinner". Narc had been an F4 WSO in Fargo from 1977 to 1990 prior to his reassignment, by DEA, to Lahore, Pakistan where he distinguished himself by putting the cuffs on Ramzi Yousef, the alleged mastermind of the 1993 WTC bombing that AG Mukasey attributed to a 'blind sheikh'.
The EITAMs rudder cycled back and forth and Chips clicked his Mic so Ramon would know they'd drop back a bit and relax. "Stone, you've got the jet, keep him in sight, don't hit him and I have to make a Clipper call on "2". As Stone wiggled the stick to indicate he had the aircraft, Chips selected 311.0 on the Clipper UHF.

My feeling is that PBA is your signal for Partial Birth Abortion.
